Here’s some examples of the sorts of ways people could help out… though don’t worry nothing is set in stone.
If you’d like to find out about any of these roles, or just want a chat about ways you could volunteer in the Scout Group please contact us.
Group Trustee
Do you have a little bit of time and enthusiasm to help the Group improve?
We need some extra Trustees who can oversee the administration of the Group. As well as a Chair, Secretary and Treasurer, we’d welcome people with specific skills, and representatives of Beaver, Cub and Scout families.
Our Trustees usually meet three or four times a year.
Though to be effective, members will volunteer for tasks inbetween meetings, to help ensure the smooth running of the Scout Group… though quite what they take on can vary.
It might be helping to run a fund-raising event, generating some publicity, taking on a project to improve the Hut, or investigating some cost savings like a new supplier.
Volunteer with Young People
Could you imagine yourself helping organise camping, climbing, caving, leading community projects or similar activities to help prepare young people with Skills for Life?
As a section leader you will do all of this and more, using your skills and learning new ones.
As part of Heath and Reach Cubs, you will help plan and deliver a safe and exciting programme for young people, making sure every young person gets the chance to spend at least one night away each year.
You’ll use your energy and creativity to help young people have fun, develop their potential and earn a wide range of badges and awards, including the prestigious Chief Scout Awards. Of course you won’t have to do this alone – a team of supporters, parents and the young people themselves will help you plan and deliver the programme. But it’s your enthusiasm and sense of fun and adventure that will inspire them.
We are looking for new volunteers in all our Sections.
Building manager
Could you help us make better use of our building in the village?
This could be some or all of these things:
- Help keep on top of safety and legal requirements like fire checks
- Seek better value for money with things like utility bills and insurance
- Help with a bit of DIY and upkeep – splashing some paint around or fixing the occasional crack and leak
- Helping manage prospective tenants.
- Help develop a vision for improving the building for the next 50 years.
We are looking for people who are willing to help out with these types of things so we have a good facility for the young people and the village.
Group Manager
Could you imagine yourself helping organise camping, climbing, caving, leading community projects or similar activities to help prepare young people with Skills for Life?
Who supports the volunteers who make everything happen? People like you.
You can inspire, motivate and plan ahead. You’ll enjoy working with adults and young people in your local area and seeing the impact of your efforts. You’ll be organised, diplomatic and know how to get the best of out people.
We’re not going to pretend this is easy. This is a big role. With big rewards.
And because you believe in the power of Scouting to help more young people you’ll know it’s all worthwhile.
Sound like you? Great. Let’s talk.
Social Media Support
Do you know your Facebook from your TikTok? Can you manage a small digital community? Then we would love to use your skills to provide to manage our social media channels.
Heath and Reach Scouts now need a Social Media Manager to help promote us and our achievements and events… not loads just a few posts so our families and the village know what we’re up to. You’ll be just as happy writing a snappy line of copy as monitoring and participating in online conversations.
With experience of a variety of social media channels, good writing and technical skills, you’ll be happy to work on your own initiative to set guidelines. No specific time commitment is required and the role is flexible enough to fit around you.
