Families might find themselves on the parent rota – this is a vital part of running the Group and helps ensure meetings are safe and fun. We appreciate you might not know what you’re walking into, so here’s some tips:
What you’ll be doing
Some nights you might just be helping supervise – the extra pair of eyes to make sure things aren’t going wrong, or an extra pair of hands if someone needs help. Other nights you might be running an activity.
What to wear
Just like the young people there’s a fair chance you could get messy or be active. Please wear clothes you don’t mind rushing around in and getting dirty.
Before the meeting
Please arrive 5-10 minutes early to help set up.
If you’re running a base or activity you might need to receive instructions or have a quick practice. In very rare situations if it’s something complex you might receive instructions in advance.
During the meeting
| Do | Do not |
|---|---|
| Join in: We don’t want you being bored so please have a go | Work with your own child/children: unless you’re specifically there to help them, you’ll all have a better evening if you mix with others |
| Encourage the young people: Help and guide if anyone is struggling or not taking part, but don’t do it for them | Be afraid to ask what’s going on |
| Watch out for safety: if anything is concerning please intervene or ask | Be on your own with Young People: Please avoid 1-to-1 situations to avoid safeguarding problems |
| Use your phone too much |
After the meeting
Please be ready to stay around 5-10 minutes at the end in case tidying is needed.
Can’t make it?
Don’t just ignore the parent rota – we realise some weeks are more exciting than others, but it can be good fun. We have put you on the rota as we need your help even if it’s just to keep our numbers safe if something goes wrong.
